Reflection of Martin Puryear
Martin Puryear’s pieces being abstract add to what makes them so interesting. He believes that a piece of work can allude to things or states of being without representing them. I think that many people who have never taken Art History or have never had any background in abstract art would not be able to appreciate this as much as someone who sees the complexity of it. Because I have taken Art History I do have an appreciation for his work and I do enjoy looking at it because it gives me something to think about.
I like all the ways he uses wood, he creates different shapes, textures, emotions and feelings just by manipulating the wood in different ways. Each piece is unique and not too similar to the next piece with Puryear, which I also find to be a strong talent.
