What makes my poster a good design
What makes my poster a good design is its simplicity of repetition. It is also clean and not overwhelming.
Reading One
After reading Reading one the book "By Design" stuck out to me the most. When I chose industrial design as my major my first thought was "superficial". This is really not what I want my life to surround around, but this is what I'm good at and love so I'm going to make the best out of it. Industrial Design is a lot more appealing to me now that I have read a piece of this book. I can see that there is more to design then just the way something looks. It's also about who it affects and the fact that design is in all of our lives all of the time so the world needs good designers.

After watching the movie Objectify I got extremely excited about being in industrial design. I like how in the movie they said that designers always want to improve things, and thats also how I am. I also like how a designer is supposed to put so much design into an object that a consumer doesn't even notice because it just blinds in.
The fork I am doing for Thinking and Making is by Dieter Rams' standards an ok designed object. Dieters ten principles for a good design is the object should be: innovative, useful aesthetic, understandable, unobtrusive, honest, long lasting, thorough, environmentally-friendly, and as little design as possible.
The fork I am doing isn't innovative per say, but a fork hasn't really been innovated for many years. Maybe a fork could be more innovative if it had a jell like handle that forms to your hand or more then four prongs. Usefulness wise this fork is perfect, it is light weighted, with a thick handle and the prongs are sturdy. This fork also has an elegant style, with a rich green handle and detailed designs. The fork is an obvious fork so theres no confusion there. This fork is sturdy and will last for many years. This fork is also dishwasher safe, so there is no
need for polluting the earth with plastic forks.Dieters last principle is as little detail as possible, this object has a little detail but to my perspective it is a good amount of detail and not overwhelming or tacky at all.
