The fork I am doing for Thinking and Making is by Dieter Rams' standards an ok designed object. Dieters ten principles for a good design is the object should be: innovative, useful aesthetic, understandable, unobtrusive, honest, long lasting, thorough, environmentally-friendly, and as little design as possible.
The fork I am doing isn't innovative per say, but a fork hasn't really been innovated for many years. Maybe a fork could be more innovative if it had a jell like handle that forms to your hand or more then four prongs. Usefulness wise this fork is perfect, it is light weighted, with a thick handle and the prongs are sturdy. This fork also has an elegant style, with a rich green handle and detailed designs. The fork is an obvious fork so theres no confusion there. This fork is sturdy and will last for many years. This fork is also dishwasher safe, so there is no
need for polluting the earth with plastic forks.Dieters last principle is as little detail as possible, this object has a little detail but to my perspective it is a good amount of detail and not overwhelming or tacky at all.
